![]() My P5's change with Amir's PEQ data has been EXCELLENT to my ears, but I can't assess how far I've come or gone. The issue is that although they have similar values, they are not the same and leaves me with the doubt that I have gotten so close to the "ideal". I know that the Harman curve is just an adjustment, I have seen several curves made for my B&W P5 both in ASR and AutoEq, I do not want this post to be derived from who measures better, that is not the issue here. The positioning of the headphones is very important because it changes the result of the frequency analysis, it is very audible even when listening to a song, adjust the headphones and everything changes, even if you yawn, it also changes. On the other hand, I understand that there are differences between measurements, I know that part well. There is really not much point re-measuring after PEQ is applied as we already know what the PEQ will do to the measured response. It may or may not match your own ideal response, so again, it's really just a guide. For example, take a look at Oratory1990's measurements, PEQ and suggested adjustments for preference (bottom right) for the HD660s here: HD660S.pdf?dl=0Īlso, the 'ideal response' is really just an average preference based on listening tests. This means that the PEQ settings derived from measurements are only a guide or starting point and they should usually be tuned to user preference. Headphones are often measured on a 'standardized' device, but measurements taken these fixtures can vary between measurements (due to slight differences in headphone placement) and between different fixtures.
